EveryLibrary Institute Launches Three New VoteLibraries Initiatives with Leading Civic and Democracy Partner Organizations

The EveryLibrary Institute, a 501c3 organization dedicated to building public support for libraries, partners with the League of Women Voters and Vote411, Nonprofit Vote, and the American Association of People with Disabilities REV Up to provide public librarians and library-focused organizations with tools and resources to participate in election administration efforts through its VoteLibraries initiative.

League of Women Voters Initiative

Emphasizing the role of public librarians as leaders in election administration and facilitators of voter registration and civic education, VoteLibraries will host a dedicated Vote411 site developed in conjunction with the League of Women Voters to support librarians in their efforts to register citizens to vote, check their registration status, and provide information on local ballots.  See https://www.votelibraries.org/votelibraries_league_vote411_2024 for more information.

National Disability Voting Rights Week Initiative

VoteLibraries’ mission is to help public librarians in empowering citizens from every walk of life to be civically informed and access the ballot. In support of their mission, we have released the 2024 “Disability Voting Rights Week Guide for Libraries” (DVRW), developed with the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) REVUp campaign. The DVRW Guide for Libraries aims to inform libraries about Disability Voting Rights Week and the importance of creating accessible spaces when conducting election administration work, including inclusive programming and education efforts. Please visit https://www.votelibraries.org/dvrw to download your copy of the Guide.

Nonprofit Vote Initiative

VoteLibraries and Nonprofit Vote have created a new toolkit, “Empowering Library-Related 501(c)3 Nonprofits to Strengthen Democracy,” specifically for Library Friends, Foundations, Alliances, and Associations to help them conduct effective and compliant voter registration and civic education activities about their issues.   Library 501(c)3 organizations have tremendous opportunities to engage and inform their members and the public about library issues and to help fill in gaps in the community in instances where public libraries are unable to participate in nonpartisan election-related activities. This new guide is focused on library-aligned organizations in order to encourage and support non-partisan political activity. Visit https://www.votelibraries.org/c3_voter_engagement_guide_2024 to download the c3 toolkit.

"Public libraries are uniquely positioned to strengthen civic engagement, especially among historically underserved communities. By partnering with organizations like the League of Women Voters, Nonprofit Vote, and The American Association of People with Disabilities REV Up, the VoteLibraries initiative goes beyond talking points and FAQs about Election Day to provide substantive and useful tools for democratic engagement in libraries," said John Chrastka, Executive Director of the EveryLibrary Institute. "Together, we can amplify the voices of all citizens and empower librarians to lead this vital effort."

The EveryLibrary Institute and its VoteLibraries initiative, along with these strategic partnerships, focus on increasing participation in the democratic process, ensuring that every voter has the opportunity to access the polls.
